69-year-old Tessie Prevost-Williams, one of the "New Orleans Four" who integrated New Orleans public schools in 1960, has passed away.

Civil rights icon Tessie Prevost-Williams, known as one of the "New Orleans Four," who helped integrate New Orleans public schools in 1960, has passed away at the age of 69 following a series of medical complications. On November 14, 1960, Prevost-Williams, along with 6-year-olds Leona Tate and Gail Etienne, faced hostility as they walked into McDonogh No. 19 Elementary School, integrating the school system six years after the U.S. Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education ruling. A series of ceremonies and events are planned to celebrate her life.
