24-year-old Pte Seán Rooney from Newtowncunningham, Co Donegal, was killed in an attack on an Irish peacekeeping convoy in Lebanon in December 2022. The UN has been urged to cooperate with an inquest into his death, after being designated an "interested person" in the case. The family's lawyer has called for the UN to make its reports into Rooney's death available to the inquest, as they believe there is a "noxious narrative" around his death that needs to be dispelled.
