89-year-old former Democratic U.S. Representative Henry Nowak, who championed western New York's infrastructure from 1975-1992, has passed away. Known for developing Buffalo's waterfront, he secured $1B in federal aid during the region's industrial decline, including the closure of Bethlehem Steel. Nowak, a lawyer and former county comptroller, is survived by his son, NY State Supreme Court Justice Henry Nowak Jr.
