WhatsApp is reportedly developing "Nearby Share", a file-sharing feature similar to Apple's AirDrop, allowing users to share files offline, currently in testing on Android and expected to be available for iOS users. The feature uses end-to-end encryption for wireless file transfers, with iOS users needing to scan a QR code to initiate file sharing. WhatsApp is also developing a username feature for profiles, enabling users to connect without sharing phone numbers, and a live message translation feature.
