President Tinubu appoints Prof. John Obafunwa as the new Director-General of Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) succeeding Prof. Babatunde Salako, whose tenure ends July 23. Obafunwa brings extensive experience to the role, having worked in various countries including the UK, USA, and Nigeria. President Tinubu expects Obafunwa to drive NIMR's objective of leading research into diseases of public health importance in Nigeria and develop structures for research dissemination. The appointment takes effect from July 24, 2024.
