Mother convicted of forcing daughter into second arranged marriage, leading to murder; first such conviction since Australia criminalized forced marriage.

A mother, Sakina Muhammad Jan, has been convicted of forcing her daughter Ruqia Haidari into a second arranged marriage in Australia, which resulted in the daughter's murder. Jan is the first person to be convicted of causing a person to enter into a forced marriage since it was criminalised more than a decade ago. Prosecutors argue that Jan should be jailed to send a message to the community about the seriousness of this offence.
