Lagos Court of Appeal upheld Mutiu Ogundare's conviction for faking kidnapping, reducing his sentence to 12 years.

The Court of Appeal in Lagos has upheld the conviction of the dethroned traditional ruler of Shangisha, Mutiu Ogundare, for faking his own kidnapping, but reduced his sentence from 15 years to 12 years. Ogundare was found guilty, along with his brother, Opeyemi Mohammed, on charges of breach of peace and false abduction. His wife, Abolanle, was acquitted due to lack of evidence linking her to the crime.
