2009: Irish Court of Appeal reduced Brian Kelly's lifetime driving ban to 20 years for causing fatal drunk-driving accident in 2008.

The Irish Court of Appeal reduced a lifetime driving ban to a 20-year disqualification for Brian Kelly, who caused the death of 24-year-old Claire Hennessy in a drunk-driving incident in 2008. Kelly had received a fully suspended two-year prison sentence in 2009. The Court of Appeal found that the lifetime ban was an error in principle and, if Kelly had appealed sooner, his suspended sentence likely would have been quashed and replaced with a custodial sentence.
