Canadian National Railway fined $8M for 2015 train derailments spilling 3.6M litres of crude oil in Ontario.

Canadian National Railway Company (CNR) was ordered by the Ontario Court of Justice to pay $8M in fines for environmental offences related to two 2015 train derailments that spilled over 3.6 million litres of crude oil. The Montreal-based railway pleaded guilty to two charges under the federal Fisheries Act. The derailments occurred on Feb. 14, 2015 near Gladwick, Ont., and Mar. 7, 2015 near Gogama, Ont.
