Indonesia plans to import up to 4.3 million tons of rice in 2024 as a contingency if domestic harvest is insufficient.

Indonesia may import up to 4.3 million tons of rice in 2024 if domestic harvest is insufficient, according to the National Food Agency's secretary, Sarwo Edhy. The country has already imported 2.22 million tons of rice between Jan-May, planning to import 3.6 million tons this year. The 4.3 million tons is a contingency measure if rice production fails to meet expected levels.
