India plans to apply for licenses to explore deep-sea minerals in the Pacific Ocean, aiming to secure supplies vital for energy transition technologies. The International Seabed Authority, backed by the UN, has issued 31 deep-sea exploration licenses, two of which are for India in the Indian Ocean. Mining activities have not yet commenced as the ISA, comprised of 36 member states, finalizes regulations. India's Ministry of Earth Sciences is set to collaborate with the nation's mining industry to apply for Pacific Ocean exploration in the coming year.
