Australia's federal government agrees to fund more wind & solar farms and large-scale batteries in Western Australia under RETA.
Australia's federal government has agreed to fund more wind & solar farms and large-scale batteries in Western Australia under the Renewable Energy Transformation Agreement (RETA). The government will underwrite 6.5TWh of new wind & solar power and 1.1GW of energy storage. Critics argue that WA's doubled wholesale electricity prices since 2021 and predicted gas deficit from 2024-2029 pose risks to businesses and industries. Despite being a major gas exporter, WA aims to close state-owned coal-fired plants by 2030.
