81-year-old Moroccan ex-minister Mohamed Ziane has been sentenced to five years in prison for "embezzlement and squandering of public funds". This follows a three-year term he's already serving in another case. His lawyer, Ali Reda Ziane, plans to appeal the ruling, calling it a "form of life sentence" for an elderly man. Ziane, a former human rights minister (1995-96), has been critical of Moroccan authorities in recent years.
