Wellington company director Finlay Thompson lost 30 kg using Ozempic, a diabetes medication popularised for weight loss by celebrities, despite it not being approved for weight loss in NZ. Though Ozempic is approved for diabetes treatment by Medsafe, it's not launched in NZ for weight loss. Similar medication Saxenda is available but in low supply. Thompson found a US clinical drug trial for Ozempic on Facebook and enrolled, noting the need for funding for such medication.
