Punjab's Agriculture Minister announces Rs 17,500 per hectare incentive for farmers to transition from paddy crops to alternatives under the revamped Crop Diversification Programme.
Punjab's Agriculture Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, announced an incentive of Rs 17,500 per hectare for farmers to transition from water-intensive paddy crops to alternative crops under the state's revamped Crop Diversification Programme (CDP). The Centre and Punjab government will jointly fund the programme in a 60:40 ratio, with a total budget allocation of Rs 289.87 crore for 2024-25. The incentive will be disbursed in two equal installments and aims to reduce over-reliance on tubewell irrigation and depletion of groundwater due to paddy cultivation.
