Mexico's costly Maya Train project, launched by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, faces criticism due to its US$30 billion price tag and environmental damage. Despite running for six months, the train has achieved disappointing ridership with only around 1,200 daily users, mainly traveling short distances between Merida, Cancun, and Campeche. The government had anticipated 22,000 to 37,000 daily passengers.
