Iraq plans to import electricity from Turkey to diversify energy sources and alleviate power outages.

Iraq plans to import electricity from Turkey to its northern provinces via a new 115-km power line to diversify its energy sources and alleviate persistent power outages. This move aims to reduce the country's dependence on Iranian gas, and Iraq is working on connecting to the Gulf Cooperation Council electric grid by year's end. The newly connected Kisik power station will provide 300 MW to the provinces of Nineveh, Salah al-Din, and Kirkuk.
