Genetically modified pigs developed by Revivicor Inc. for organ transplants are found safe for alpha-gal allergy patients.
Genetically modified pigs, originally bred for organ transplants, have been found to be safe for people with alpha-gal allergy, which causes severe reactions to red meat. The pigs, developed by Revivicor Inc., do not carry the sugar responsible for this allergy, allowing some patients to consume their meat products. The company provides its small supply of the modified pork for free to allergy patients.
