Florida's Palm Beach Zoo protects animals from heat with frozen treats, cold showers, and ice.
Florida's Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society uses frozen treats, cold showers, and large amounts of ice to protect its animals from hot summer temperatures. Animals such as Malayan tigers, Aldabra tortoises, black bears, otters, and giant tortoises are given frozen treats like bones and goat milk, ice blocks, and chilled pools to help them cool down during the intense heat. The zoo staff continually monitors and adjusts these cooling activities based on the animals' preferences.
