Washington DC and Milwaukee are among the US cities most vulnerable to space weather due to geomagnetic storms, caused by solar flares and coronal mass ejections, according to researchers at the British Geological Survey. These storms can damage infrastructure such as satellites and underground pipelines. Dr Lauren Orr of BGS will present her findings at the National Astronomy Meeting.
