New Zealand's Oceans & Fisheries Minister, Shane Jones, visits Solomon Islands for the 23rd Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Committee & 5th Regional Fisheries Ministers' Meeting (23-26 July). 17 ministers will discuss sustainable management of Pacific fisheries resources, with a focus on shared approaches to fisheries management, as 85% of tuna caught in the Western & Central Pacific Ocean falls within Forum Fisheries Committee members' exclusive economic zones. Work also involves improving crew working standards, monitoring compliance, and combating illegal fishing.
