Judge Leonie Brinkema overturned some convictions against an Islamic scholar from Virginia, Ali Al-Timimi, who was found guilty of soliciting treason after 9/11. Al-Timimi encouraged followers to fight against the US in Afghanistan. The judge overturned three of 10 counts, but upheld others that could result in additional decades in prison beyond his current 15-year sentence.
