Highway 6 in Slocan Valley is closed and Silverton is on evacuation alert due to two wildfires - Aylwin Creek and Komonko Creek fires. The fires, which ignited during a lightning storm, have forced a 12-km closure of the highway and previous evacuations of nearby properties. Ground crews and air tankers are working to suppress the fires, but hot and dry conditions are making fire behavior worse, according to BC Wildfire Service.
