British Columbia Civil Resolution Tribunal orders Vancouver strata to cancel $12,000 fines against owner Renmei Gong for renting her suite as short-term accommodation.

The British Columbia Civil Resolution Tribunal has ordered a Vancouver strata to cancel $12,000 in fines against an owner, Renmei Gong, who rented her suite as short-term accommodation (STA). The strata had initially imposed $18,000 in fines for using the unit as an STA and other alleged violations. However, the tribunal member found that the strata did not meet multiple requirements under the Strata Property Act for notification of fines and improperly imposed the $12,000 fines. Consequently, Gong was ordered to pay $7,669 in bylaw fines and unpaid fees.
