University of Virginia researchers discovered undisclosed psilocybin and psilocin in brain health mushroom gummies sold in Central Virginia.
University of Virginia researchers have found illegal substances, psilocybin and psilocin, in brain health mushroom gummies sold in Central Virginia gas stations and smoke shops. The gummies, which claimed to contain Amanita muscaria mushrooms or a proprietary blend, did not disclose the presence of psilocybin or psilocin. Some packages featured QR codes claiming they had been lab-tested, but these were found to be inaccurate. The researchers advise doctors to be vigilant for patients who have fallen ill after consuming the gummies and note that standard hospital drug screens may not detect the substances.
