1,000th Florida grasshopper sparrow born in captivity marks a significant milestone in species' recovery.

Critically endangered Florida grasshopper sparrows, once removed from wild habitats, are now rebounding after being bred in captivity. Ten young sparrows, raised in captivity, were recently released near the Avon Park Air Force Range in Florida. The 1,000th sparrow born and reared under care of an extensive team of state, federal, and private wildlife caretakers marks a significant milestone in the species' recovery.
