South Africa's Government of National Unity (GNU) plans to expand the range of essential food items exempt from VAT, in response to high poverty levels and cost of living. President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the GNU will review administered prices, including the fuel price formula, to identify areas where prices can be reduced. The government aims to advance three strategic priorities: inclusive growth and job creation, reducing poverty, and tackling the high cost of living.
