Rancher T.J. Walkem rescued half of his cows from the Shetland Creek wildfire near Spences Bridge, riding towards a growing wall of flame to save them. The fire, burning in a culturally sensitive area and a large portion of Cook's Ferry Indian Band's reserve, jumped and combined two wildfires into one large one at 5 p.m. on July 17th. Walkem managed to move his cows north to escape the fire.
