Nigerian military and police chiefs deny allegations of providing security for illegal miners. At a House of Representatives Committee on Mineral Resources hearing, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa and Inspector General of Police Mr. Kayode Egbetokun stated that their forces only protect legitimate miners with licenses in conflict-affected areas. They also assured support for agencies combatting illegal mining.
