UK's university admissions service UCAS plans to replace personal statements with three structured questions to encourage more applications from disadvantaged backgrounds. The new system, set to be introduced from September 2025 for 2026 entry, aims to reduce the gap in university application rates between the most and least advantaged students. Under the current system, students must submit a 4,000-character personal statement discussing their motivation and skills for their chosen subject.
