Renowned cardiac surgeon and medical innovator Dr. Marthanda Varma Sankaran Valiathan, the first VC of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, passed away at 90. He was instrumental in founding Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, and his awards include Padma Vibhushan, Chevalier in Ordre des Palmes Académiques, and Dr. Samuel P. Asper International Award.
