Researchers at Imperial College London and the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Medical Science have discovered a drug that extends the lifespan of lab mice by up to 25% by targeting the protein interleukin-11 (IL-11). The anti-IL-11 drug is currently in human clinical trials for other conditions, raising the possibility that it could also have anti-ageing effects in humans. The mice treated with the drug had a reduced risk of cancer, improved muscle strength, and reduced muscle wasting.
