1980 to present: Arctic sea ice cooling power decline faster than extent, leading to c. 15% global added warming.

New research led by the University of Michigan reveals that sea ice cooling power has declined faster than its area of extent since 1980. Using satellite measurements of cloud cover and solar radiation reflection, scientists found that the Arctic has lost around a quarter of its cooling power, with the world losing up to 15%. The added warming impact from this change is towards the higher end of climate model estimates.
