Opossum captured in downtown Honolulu on July 17th; to be tested for rabies.

An opossum was captured in downtown Honolulu on July 17th by Honolulu Police officers. The animal was found on a window ledge outside the Austin Building and will be tested for rabies by state Agriculture Department inspectors. Native to North America, opossums are omnivorous and may have arrived in Honolulu by stowing away in a shipping container. They can carry parasites and other diseases.
