5 NZ hospitals trial new mental health & addiction peer support service in emergency depts.
5 hospitals in NZ are trialing a new mental health and addiction peer support service in their emergency departments to increase access to support for New Zealanders. Peer Support Specialists will aid patients in need, connect them to community services, and offer support to those arriving at hospitals alone, with family, or the police. Mental Health Minister Matt Doocey notes the success of a similar program at Nelson Hospital, and plans to implement it across NZ.
