MSG leaders request a UN-MSG joint mission to assess New Caledonia's political situation, address tensions, and call for another self-determination referendum.
Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) leaders have called for a joint United Nations-MSG mission to assess the political situation in New Caledonia, addressing ongoing tensions and potential solutions. MSG members, including leaders from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu, expressed concern over the "tenuous security situation" and the "apparent militarisation" of the French territory. They also requested a high-level 'eminent persons' from France to engage in negotiations and called for another self-determination referendum on the issue of independence.
