Massachusetts' oldest men's prison, MCI Concord, has closed after the last of its 300 inmates were reassigned to other state facilities. The prison, which dates back to 1878, was marked for closure due to a declining statewide prison population and high maintenance costs. All correctional staff have been relocated to other Department of Corrections facilities and no job losses occurred.
