Madras High Court directs DVAC to investigate Tuticorin police firing incident assets, suspects predetermination at behest of industrialist.
The Madras High Court has criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for its unfair investigation into the 2018 Tuticorin police firing incident, where 13 anti-Sterlite protesters were killed. The court suspects the incident was predetermined at the behest of an industrialist who wanted to teach the protesters a lesson. The state's Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has been directed to investigate the assets of all officers, including IPS and IAS officers, who were serving in Tuticorin at the time of the incident. The court's decision came in response to a plea by activist Henri Tiphagne to reopen the probe closed by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
