Honolulu Police Officer Cheyne Kaninau was sentenced to community service for insurance fraud after obtaining a policy for an uninsured vehicle involved in a crash and attempting to file a $6,700 claim. Hawaii Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito stated that insurance fraud increases insurance premiums for consumers. Kaninau must also pay a fine and court fees, and abide by standard terms and conditions for four years.
