A French lifeguard and the local council were found guilty of manslaughter for the 2015 drowning of British schoolgirl, Jessica Lawson, during a school trip in France. The court ruled that swimming supervisor Leo Lemaire was criminally responsible for the manslaughter, while Liginiac Town Hall was fined €20,000 for negligence in not posting warning signs. Both parties were ordered to pay damages to Jessica's parents.
