15-day extension of humanitarian truce in eastern DRC, aimed at ending conflict between government troops and M23 rebels; US to work with DRC, Rwanda, and Angola for a permanent ceasefire.
The White House welcomed a 15-day extension of the humanitarian truce in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) until August 3. The truce aims to end the conflict between government troops and Rwanda-backed M23 rebels in North Kivu province, where fighting has been ongoing for over two years. The US will continue to work closely with DRC, Rwanda, and Angola governments to support regional diplomatic efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire.
