Cyprus plans to construct a major naval base on its southern coast, supported by Greece, for humanitarian aid deliveries to the Middle East.

Cyprus' Defense Minister, Vasilis Palmas, announced plans to construct a major naval base on the southern coast, accommodating large ships from EU countries and others for humanitarian aid deliveries to the Middle East and supporting Cyprus' elevated geopolitical role as the EU's closest member to the region. Greece will provide technical support, with construction guided by an expert study. The base will be built near an existing naval installation in Limassol.
