Curlew birds breed on Trasna Island, Lower Lough Erne, after habitat restoration efforts.
Curlew birds return to breed on Trasna Island, Lower Lough Erne, for the first time in living memory. RSPB NI and Lough Erne Landscape Partnership have worked to restore island habitat, supporting the return of vulnerable species such as curlews, lapwings, snipes, and redshanks. The breeding curlew population has declined by over 80% since the 1980s, making their return to Trasna Island a significant achievement for conservationists.
