China's Communist Party expels Qin Gang and Li Shangfu from Central Committee due to corruption.
China's Communist Party has expelled former Foreign Minister Qin Gang and former Defense Minister Li Shangfu from its Central Committee due to "serious violations of discipline and law", a term often associated with corruption. This follows an extensive anti-corruption purge implicating two former defense ministers and top generals within China's People's Liberation Army. Qin Gang was dismissed as foreign minister in July last year, while Li Shangfu was removed as defense minister in October before being placed under a graft investigation.
