California receives initial $30M for hydrogen energy hub, aiming to replace fossil fuels.

California will be the first state to receive federal funds under a new program to create regional hydrogen energy hubs and help replace fossil fuels. The U.S. Department of Energy selected the California Hydrogen Hub for an initial $30 million investment to begin its planning and design phase. If fully funded, the project could receive up to $1.2 billion, with the goal of eventually replacing fossil fuels like coal and oil with hydrogen as a clean energy source.
