New research reveals that the ancient city of Pompeii was hit by earthquakes in addition to the infamous eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The study published in Frontiers in Earth Science found evidence of earthquakes in the form of two skeletons, likely crushed by collapsed buildings during the seismic activity. This discovery provides more insight into the complex events that led to the destruction of Pompeii and the death of its inhabitants.
