The Kansas City Royals have placed young outfielder MJ Melendez, 25, on the 10-day injured list due to a left ankle sprain, retroactive to July 15. Melendez was injured running out a ground ball in the Royals' most recent game. His absence could be brief, as off days during the All-Star break may allow him to return after missing only a few games. Melendez has struggled this season, batting .192, but has been showing improvement in recent weeks. No corresponding roster move has been announced yet.
