80-year-old former Sikkim minister RC Poudyal, a key figure in the region's politics during the late '70s and '80s, was found dead in the Teesta Canal near Siliguri, West Bengal, nine days after he went missing. A Special Investigation Team was set up to search for Poudyal, who had influential roles as the deputy speaker in Sikkim's first assembly and later as the state's forest minister. The cause of death is still under investigation.
