2021 Supreme Court directs Indian Air Force to pay Rs 1.5 crore compensation to soldier who contracted AIDS from contaminated blood transfusion in 2002 during Operation Parakram.
An Indian Air Force (IAF) soldier who contracted AIDS due to contaminated blood transfusion in 2002 received Rs 18 lakh, and the remaining Rs 1.41 crore awarded as compensation has been deposited with the Supreme Court registry. The apex court, in a 2021 judgment, directed the IAF to pay the soldier Rs 1.5 crore in compensation. The incident occurred during Operation Parakram following the 2001 Parliament terrorist attack.
