12 oil companies in Ghana owe $2.77m in unpaid surface rentals to the government for 2022.

According to the Auditor-General's report on petroleum funds for Jan 1-Dec 31, 2022, the Ghanaian government has yet to recover $2.77m in surface rentals from 12 oil companies. The total estimated surface rentals for the period were $3.46m, but only $687,759 was received, leaving a substantial outstanding balance. Of the 18 operating companies, 12 have defaulted on their surface rental payments.
